Jersey City Armory To Receive $1.5 Million Grant
At 10 am on Wednesday, Sept. 22 the New Jersey National Guard Armory on Montgomery Street will host a press conference to announce the allocation of a combined $1.5 million dollars in state funds to rehab the building and athletic facilities at the Hudson County Armory.
Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, The Adjutant General of New Jersey and Commander of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard will be joined by State Senators Bernie Kenny and Joe Doria, Assembly Speaker Albio Sires, Hudson County Executive, Tom DeGise, Jersey City Mayor L. Harvey Smith, and Bob Hurley, Director, Jersey City Recreation Department to accept a $1 million dollar grant from the State of New Jersey and a $.5 million dollars from the CRDA (Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.)
The monies will be dedicated to improving the indoor track facility and renovating the armory, which, according to a Jersey City Recreation Department spokesperson will make this facility the premier indoor track facility in the north Jersey area.
The Jersey City Armory currently is home to D Company, 2nd Battalion,
113th Infantry and E Company, 50th Main Support Battalion, New Jersey
Army National Guard. Both units were recently mobilized for extended
federal active duty service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. |
