Vietnam Era Educational Center Hosts Slide Show And Discussion

On Saturday, October 14, at 1 p.m., at the Vietnam Era Educational Center in Holmdel, the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation will host a slide show and discussion about Vietnamese folklife, called “Vietnam: A View You Have Never Seen Before,” presented by Sierra Club organizer and New Jersey public school teacher Ken Mayberg.

Ken Mayberg, of Robbinsville , N.J. , is an environmentalist and an educator. He is involved with the Central Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club, an organization fostering interest to “explore, enjoy and protect the planet.”   He is a fifth-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School in Trenton, where he often incorporates environmental education projects into his students' school-day experience.  Mayberg's love for his planet's natural beauty has taken him to places all around the globe.   He carries his camera, so that he may share his joy of distant lands to others back here at home.  One such journey was through Vietnam.

“Vietnam: A View You Have Never Seen Before” is a slide show featuring original photographs taken by Mayberg during a recent trip through the countryside of Vietnam.  This country, still emerging from years of war and economic challenges, possesses rare beauty.  Mayberg's photos capture traditional tribes wearing colorful costumes, women working in the rice paddies, the river-based lifestyle of the Mekong Delta and monuments to past empires.

Lecture attendees are asked to RSVP to (732) 335-0033.  A donation of $5 per person is suggested.  The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116.  The Educational Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Regular admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel.  Regular adult admission is $4; student and senior citizen admission is $2; and children under 10 are admitted free.
