Global War On Terrorism Memorial

To Be Dedicated

On Saturday, May 28, a ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs headquarters on Eggert Crossing Road in Lawrenceville.  A new memorial honoring members of the National Guard killed while fighting in the Global War on Terrorism will be dedicated.

This memorial ceremony specifically honors the four members of Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery who were killed in action in Iraq in June of 2004: Staff Sgt. Frank Carvill of Carlstadt; Staff Sgt. Umberto Timoteo of Newark; Sgt. Ryan Doltz of Mine Hill; and Spc. Christopher Duffy of Brick.

Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, The Adjutant General of New Jersey stated, “It is most fitting and appropriate that we all come together to honor the service, sacrifice, and the sacred memories of these four brave soldiers on this, the first official observance of Memorial Day since their loss.”

The stone monument bearing the names of the four fallen National Guardsmen will be unveiled as part of the ceremony.  The families of these fallen heroes have been invited to participate.  The names of any additional members of the New Jersey National Guard who perish while serving in the Global War on Terrorism will be added to the memorial.
