Vietnam Era Educational Center Hosts Military Vehicle Display
A hands-on display of military history dating from World War II through the post-Vietnam era will greet visitors to the Vietnam Era Educational Center on Saturday, June 18. Hosted by the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation, the event will feature a wide variety of restored military vehicles from the mid-twentieth century.
The event will be held in the parking lot of the Educational Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free to the public. The raindate for this event is Saturday, June 25. In the event of inclement weather, visitors can call the Foundation at (732) 335-0033 on June 18 to determine if the event is being held.
The restored vehicles belong to members of the Military Transport Association of North Jersey, the Central Jersey Military Motor Pool, and the South Jersey Chapter of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. These are nonprofit organizations dedicated to the preservation of historic military vehicles.
The members have gone to great lengths to ensure that their vehicles are accurately restored and represent the Jeeps, trucks and tanks that were used in active service. Motorized military vehicles have played an important role in military operations and are regarded as history on wheels. Among the vehicles scheduled for display are numerous World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Jeeps; several 2½-ton trucks (deuce-and-a-halfs) that hauled millions of tons of cargo and personnel, and a World War II armored car complete with a 37mm gun. Collectors are happy to have visitors look at the equipment and welcome questions about the vehicles.
The Vietnam Era Educational Center is located adjacent to the New Jersey
Vietnam Veterans' Memorial off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116.
The Memorial and Educational Center are maintained through a partnership
between the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation and the New
Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Educational
Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Regular
admission is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel.
Regular adult admission is $4; student and senior citizen admission is
$2; and children under 10 are admitted free. |
