Lt. Col. Rosenberg To Command

5th Squadron-117th Cavalry


      On Sunday, May 2, at 1 p.m., Lt. Col. James Rosenberg officially will assume command of the New Jersey Army National Guard's 5th Squadron, 117th Cavalry.

 

     The traditional change of command ceremony will take place at the Squadron's headquarters located at the National Guard Armory in Vineland. Col. Michael V. Shute will relinquish command.

 

      Prior to taking command, Lt. Col. Rosenberg served in a wide variety of positions within the National Guard during his more than 26 years of commissioned service to include: Tank Platoon Leader, Tactical Intelligence Officer, Scout Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Intelligence Officer, Battalion Training Officer Air, Personnel Officer, and Brigade Personnel Officer.

 

      In the months immediately following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, troops from the 5th-117th provided security at the state's key infrastructure and currently, the Squadron still has a number of troops on federal active duty providing security at the state's major military installations.

 

      Among his military awards and honors are the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Army Achievement Medal.

 

      In civilian life, Lt. Col. Rosenberg is the Financial Manager for the United States Property and Fiscal Office located at Fort Dix. The new Commander and his wife Barbara reside in Burlington County.
