NJ National Guard Troops Mobilized
More than 1,200 members of the New Jersey Army National Guard have been notified that they will be called to extended active duty service under Title 10 USC in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the ongoing war against global terrorism. The troops will be drawn from Detachment 2, 42nd Division (42nd DIV) headquartered in Lawrenceville; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 42nd Division Support Command headquartered in Somerset; Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), A Company and C Company, 50th Main Support Battalion (50th MSB) headquartered in Teaneck; E Company, 50th MSB headquartered in Jersey City; Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), 250th Signal Battalion (250th SIG) headquartered in Westfield; A Company, 250th SIG headquartered in Cherry Hill; C Company, 250th SIG headquartered in Somerset; Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), A Company and C Company, 150th General Support Aviation Battalion (150th GSAB), headquartered in West Trenton; Detachment 1 Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD) and B Company, 642nd Division Aviation Support Battalion, (642nd DASB) headquartered in West Trenton; and Detachment 2, 42nd Military Police (42nd MP), headquartered in Lawrenceville.
The Jersey Guard troops are expected to deploy to Southwest Asia to provide logistical and aviation support in the Southwest Asia theater of operations. The deployment is expected to last up to 18 months and is part of the third round of rotations of Guard and Reserve units called up in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Media availability” with troops will be scheduled throughout the month. Additional Media Advisories will be issued with dates and locations.
By the end of May, approximately 2,400 New Jersey Army and Air National Guard members will have been mobilized and deployed for extended active duty in support of a variety of Homeland Defense and Homeland Security missions. Jersey troops currently provide security at the state's two nuclear facilities, Fort Dix, Fort Monmouth, Picatinny Arsenal, McGuire Air Force Base, and the Air Guard Base located at the Atlantic City International Airport.
Additional citizen-soldiers from the Garden State have been deployed or
soon will be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan (Operations Enduring Freedom/Iraqi
Freedom), and Guantanamo Bay (Operation Enduring Freedom). |
