Another Jersey National Guard Unit MobilizedApproximately 50 members of Company B TMT (Truck Motor Transport), 50th Main Support Battalion (MSB), New Jersey Army National Guard were notified yesterday that their units had been formally mobilized. This action follows a previously issued “alert” order announcing the possible mobilization of all or part of the total number of personnel in the 50th MSB. Company B is headquartered in Dover (Morris County). According to the unit’s Commander, Captain Chad Thiemann of Hamburg, New Jersey, “This (mobilization) isn’t new to us. We (Company B) already have 50 personnel serving in support of Operation Noble Eagle providing security at military installations throughout the state; and 16 personnel currently serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the Guard’s 253rd Transportation Company in support of the 101st Airborne Division.” Following “pre-mobilization” activity at their home station, the unit will move to Fort Eustis, Virginia for mobilization, processing, and deployment. The unit’s primary mission is to provide heavy transportation support utilizing M-1070 trucks and the M-1000 trailers which are capable of carrying up to 80 tons of cargo. The largest tractor-trailer combination in the Army inventory is capable of transporting the M-1 Abrams Main Battle Tank as well as the M-151 self propelled Howitzer. The
112th Field Artillery, 5th Squadron 117th Cavalry, and 50th Finance Battalion
are among the other
New Jersey Army National Guard units recently
mobilized. Other Army Guard personnel from the 5th Squadron 117th Cavalry
(with units in Vineland, West Orange, Dover (Morris County), and Woodstown)
and the 42nd DISCOM (Division Support Command) headquartered in Somerset
were activated in 2003 to provide additional security at military installations
throughout the Garden State while the 150th Adjutant General Detachment
(headquartered in Lawrenceville) and the 444th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
(headquartered at Fort Dix) also were mobilized for federal service and
currently are stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. The Guard’s 253rd
Transportation Company headquartered in Cape May Courthouse currently is
deployed to Iraq and is serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 101st
Airborne Division. |
