Veterans' Oral History Luncheon To Be

Held In Manasquan

The National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey (NGMMNJ) Center for U.S. War Veterans Oral History Program will be holding its annual luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on November 24 at the Manasquan Elks Lodge.

The luncheon is held to honor veterans who participated in the Oral History Program over the previous year. The Oral History Center has interviewed close to 400 veterans of World War II, Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom since the program's inception in 2001.

Approximately 30 veterans and their guests have been invited to attend this year's affair where each veteran will be presented with a resolution commending them for their participation in the program to preserve history.

Copies of individual video interviews are filed at the museum, sent to the Library of Congress and given to the veteran participants. As time and resources permit, summaries are posted on the NGMMNJ website under “Oral History Archives” at:

www.state.nj.us/military//museum/oralhistory.html

These veteran interviews are vital historical primary sources and have already been accessed by scholars, journalists, book authors and documentary film makers around the world, as well as other veterans and their families. They are a vital part of the American story.

Individuals interested in participating in the program in the future may obtain an application by calling the museum or downloading and printing it from the website.
