The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation held its annual Vietnam Veterans' Remembrance Day ceremony on May 7 at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Holmdel. More than 500 people watched the Plainfield High School Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard (above) present the colors to start the event. Vietnam veterans (right) fill the audience as nearly 160 New Jersey’s military veterans were presented with medals by retired Col. Stephen G. Abel, Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, the medals included the N.J. Distinguished Service Medal, N.J. Meritorious Service Medal, N.J. Vietnam Service Medal, N.J. Korean Service Medal and the N.J. POW/MIA Service Medal. To close out the ceremony various veterans’ organizations (below) placed wreaths beneath the New Jersey state tree, the Red Oak, in the central courtyard of the memorial.
