The Office of Economic Growth (OEG) [economic growth strategy chart] was established as a permanent part of the executive branch in January 2006 and is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of state government activities that affect New Jersey businesses. Specifically, OEG oversees the development and implementation of Governor Corzine’s comprehensive Economic Growth Strategy and is authorized to call upon the state’s departments, divisions, authorities and agencies for support in doing so. The office directs the state’s economic development activity through two primary agencies--the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. In addition, OEG works with more than 20 state agencies and authorities to ensure coordination of the strategy implementation. The Office of Economic Growth not only assists large corporations seeking to expand or relocate in New Jersey but small businesses as well. Governor Corzine’s Economic Growth Council, comprised of business, education and labors leaders in the State of New Jersey, provides advice and feedback to the Governor and the Office of Economic Growth on business expansion issues and roadblocks to development. The Council also supports the economic growth plans of the State of New Jersey through active participation in development and implementation of strategic initiatives to produce measurable and sustainable business retention and growth. |
