Responsible for the dissemination of information concerning
the Divisions operations, functions, and activities
in an attempt to keep the public well informed. This is done
by responding to media inquiries which range from daily activity
updates to overnight police reports to requests for statistics,
research and specialized interviews on topics of public interest
and concern. The unit conducts press conferences, prepares
press releases, assists with feature stories, and keeps an
open line of communication with the general public. In addition
to handling media inquiries, the unit is responsible for briefing
the Superintendent and Staff on public events; speech and
remark preparation; assisting the departmental director in
preparing press events for the Attorney General. The unit
is responsible for writing and coordinating the presentation
of Division awards by the Superintendent and act as liaison
on behalf of the Superintendent with the County 200 clubs,
D.L.&P.S. Awards Committee and other outside agencies.
The Office of Professional Standards reports directly to
the Superintendent. The Office is charged with administering
the investigative and disciplinary processes for the Division
of State Police. The primary mission of the Office of Professional
Standards is to assure that the Division members meet the
highest standards of integrity and ethical performance.

Executive Protection Unit
The Executive Protection Unit specializes in
providing security for the states Chief Executive
and Attorney General. Other responsibilities include
residential security at both the State Mansion (Drumthwacket)
and the Governors private home as well as providing
security for visiting dignitaries.
