Director
N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs

Thomas R. Calcagni became Acting Director of the N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs on May 24, 2010, and was sworn in as Director on July 6, 2011. An attorney admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, Calcagni previously worked as a federal prosecutor for nine years at the United States Attorney's Office in Newark. He also taught at the Seton Hall University School of Law as an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy.

As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Calcagni prosecuted both civil and criminal matters including health care fraud, environmental crimes, financial crimes, tax fraud, and public corruption. He also was selected to serve on the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund, where he presided over personal injury hearings and determined compensation awards for 9/11 victims and their families.

Awarded his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in June 1997, Calcagni served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Donald S. Coburn of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, in Morristown, and then to the Honorable Katharine S. Hayden of the United States District Court, District of New Jersey, in Newark. He worked as a litigation associate for a Morristown-based law firm before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office.
