Each year, Congress declares one week in April as Crime Victims’ Rights Week to honor and recognize crime victims and those who assist them. This year, the Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime declared April 2nd – 8th as the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The 2017 National Theme is: "Strength. Resilience. Hope,” which reflects a vision for the future in which all victims are strengthened by the response they receive, organizations are resilient in response to challenges, and communities are able to seek collective justice and healing.

The New Jersey State Office of Victim Witness Advocacy and the Victims of Crime Compensation Office is honored to host this year’s Crime Victims’ Rights Week event on April 7th at 10:30 A.M. in the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex.

New Jersey will further focus the National theme on victims of domestic violence who often go through the turnstile of repetitive abuse before reaching the train to recovery. The strength and resilience these victims possess to seek justice and healing presents is the tie that binds these victims together, even despite hailing from various cutleries, populations, and environments and experiencing different forms of abuse.

We hope you will join us in paying respect to all of our victims of crime, thanking the many individuals who support them through vital services, and highlighting the role of law enforcement in securing justice for the victim and the community.
