Burlington
County Insurance Agent Pleads Guilty to
Stealing $31,000
in Premium Monies |

TRENTON
- Division of Criminal Justice Director
Vaughn L. McKoy announced that a Burlington
County insurance agent has pleaded guilty
in Burlington County Superior Court to
a charge of theft for stealing more than
$31,200 in insurance premiums.
According to Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
Greta Gooden Brown, Louis Polite, 52,
Greenwich Street, Phila., pleaded guilty
before Burlington County Superior Court
Judge Patricia Richmond LeBon to a criminal
Accusation filed by the Division of Criminal
Justice - Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor.
The Accusation charged Polite with theft
by failure to make required disposition
of property received. When sentenced on
March 3, Polite faces up to five years
in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
Polite may also face civil insurance fraud
fines. In addition, the case will be referred
the Department of Banking and Insurance
which is responsible for licensing insurance
agents and regulating professional conduct.
At the guilty plea hearing, Polite, a
licensed insurance agent and owner of
Polite Insurance Agency, located on Rt.
130 in Burlington City, Burlington County,
admitted that between Jan. 1, 2003 and
Nov. 19, 2004, to accepting insurance
premiums from at least two dozen insurance
customers, most of whom were purchasing
automobile insurance. Polite admitted
that he failed to remit the insurance
premiums to the insurance companies as
payment for the insurance coverage. The
Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor determined
that Polite stole more than $31,200 in
insurance premiums as a result of the
fraudulent activity.
State Investigator Robert Stemmer and
Deputy Attorney General Lewis J. Korngut
were assigned to the investigation. DAG
Korngut represented the Division of Criminal
Justice - Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor
at the guilty plea hearing. The Burlington
City Police Department assisted the Office
of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor in the
investigation.
