Police
in South Jersey Set to Begin
‘Click It or Ticket’ Crackdown
The
New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic
Safety
and the Gloucester City Police Department
will help launch a statewide seat
belt enforcement campaign on Monday,
May 22. The National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA)
says seat belt use reduces fatalities
by 45 percent and reduces the risk
of moderate to critical injury by
50 percent.
“Eighty-six
percent of New Jersey motorists use
their seat belts and comply with the
law,” said Roberto Rodriguez,
director of the Division of Highway
Traffic Safety. “The ‘Click
It or Ticket’ mobilization
addresses the 14 percent who fail
to buckle up. Police would rather
write a thousand tickets than have
to knock on one family’s door
with news that a loved one didn’t
survive a crash because they weren’t
wearing a seat belt.”
What:
First day of the annual ‘Click
It or Ticket’ mobilization;
checkpoint to enforce New Jersey’s
primary seat belt law. Gloucester
City Police Department will issue
summonses to violators.
Where:
Route 130 South and Market Street
in Gloucester City, on the median
strip between Route 130 South/North.
When:
Monday,
May 22, 2006 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00
a.m.
Why:
The ‘Click It or Ticket’
mobilization runs from May 22nd to
