TRENTON – Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa announced that a Camden drug dealer was sentenced to prison today for assisting another drug dealer in sales of an assault rifle and heroin to an undercover officer. The second man previously was sentenced to prison.

Anthony Smith, 33, of Camden, aka “Tone” and “A,” was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison, including 8 ½ years of parole ineligibility, by Superior Court Judge Michael J. Kassel in Camden.  Smith pleaded guilty on March 11 to first-degree racketeering, admitting that he assisted a second drug dealer in sales to an undercover officer of a Universal Enforcer M-1 assault rifle on May 8, 2010, and approximately 150 grams of heroin on May 1, 2010.

Smith’s co-defendant, Reynel “Mito” Delvalle, 36, of Camden, was sentenced on April 5 to 14 years in state prison, including nearly 12 years of parole ineligibility, by Superior Court Judge Irvin J. Snyder. Delvalle pleaded guilty on Dec. 5, 2012, to first-degree racketeering.  He admitted that he distributed large quantities of heroin in Camden, supplying heroin to a number of dealers who worked under him.  He also admitted his involvement in the sales of the M-1 assault rifle and heroin to the undercover officer in May 2010.

Deputy Attorney General Kristen Harberg prosecuted the defendants and handled today’s sentencing for the Division of Criminal Justice Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau.

Smith and Delvalle were among 28 defendants indicted in December 2011 by the Division of Criminal Justice in Operation Jumpstart.  Operation Jumpstart was conducted by the New Jersey State Police, Division of Criminal Justice, Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey Division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and other members of the HIDTA Joint Camden Task Force, including the Camden City Police Department, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Cherry Hill Police Department, Evesham Police Department, Woodbury Police Department and Air National Guard.
