Los fuegos artificiales en Nueva Jersey son  ilegales sin un permiso válido

NEWARK- En la aproximación del 4 de Julio, Día de la Independencia de los EE.UU., el Fiscal General  Interino John J. Hoffman  y la División de Asuntos del Consumidor alertan a los consumidores de Nueva Jersey acerca del uso de los fuegos artificiales.

Bajo las Leyes de Explosivos y Fuegos Artificiales de Nueva Jersey1, es ilegal vender, ofrecer para vender, poseer o usar fuegos artificiales en cualquier parte del Estado sin un permiso válido, dado por una municipalidad para la exhibición de fuegos artificiales.

Un permiso válido tiene que tener “el nombre de la persona autorizada para comprar, hacer el pedido, y recibir la entrega de los fuegos artificiales. Después de que tal permiso se ha dado, la venta, posesión y uso de los fuegos artificiales para dicha exhibición será legal para ese propósito solamente.”

Cualquier persona que venda, ofrezca o despliegue para vender, o posea con la intención de vender fuegos artificiales, es culpable de un crimen del cuarto grado. Un apersona que compra, usa, descarga, o causa la descarga, enciende, dispara, o de cualquier otra manera pone en acción, o posee cualquier fuego artificial sin el permiso requerido, es culpable de un delito al orden público.

“Los despliegues de fuegos artificiales son un espectáculo de diversión y una manera en la que América celebra el Día de la Independencia  y disfruta del verano. Pero hay que disfrutarlos de una manera legal y responsable,” dijo el Fiscal General Interino Hoffman

En el 2011, el más reciente Reporte Anual de Fuegos Artificiales de la Comisión de Seguridad de Productos de Consumo, se anotó que el 65 % de todas las lesiones causadas por los fuegos artificiales ocurren durante los 30 días alrededor del día feriado del 4 de Julio, Día de la Independencia de EE.UU. La mayoría de las lesiones incluyen quemaduras en las manos, cabeza, ojos, cara y orejas. Durante el 2011hubo un estimado de unas 9,000 lesiones y cuatro muertes, debido a los fuegos artificiales por toda la nación.

En el 2007, la División de Asuntos del Consumidor demandó a  cuatro compañías de fuegos artificiales de Pennsylvania  las cuales acordaron a revisar sus prácticas de negocios cuando ofrecieron de venta y vendieron fuegos artificiales a los consumidores de Nueva Jersey. Estas compañías anuncios, sitios webs y folletos de anuncios, y carteles en las tiendas tienen que contener la siguiente advertencia: “Las leyes de Nueva Jersey prohíben la transportación, venta, posesión, y uso de fuegos artificiales en Nueva Jersey sin un permiso válido.”
