Un ex tesorero de la PBA Local en Hudson County sentenciado a la cárcel por robar casi $75,000 de la Unión

TRENTON – El Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman anunció que un ex tesorero de la Hudson County Department of Corrections Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 109A fue sentenciado a la cárcel hoy por robar casi $75,000 en fondos de la unión.

Noel Conyers, 49, de Maplewood, N.J., fue sentenciado hoy a 364 días en la cárcel del condado y a 3 años de probación por el Juez de la Corte Superior Robert Mega en Union County. Se le puso inmediamente en la cárcel del condado para que cumpliera su tiempo. Conyers tiene que pagar restitución en la cantidad de $74,887 y se le ha prohibido permanentemente de tener puesto o empleo público. Él admitió culpabilidad en Julio 29 en tercer grado a robo por tomar ilegalmente.

La Deputy Attorney General Jane Khodarkovsky procesó a Conyers y trató la sentencia de parte del Division of Criminal Justice Corruption Bureau.

Admitiendo culpabilidad, Conyers dijo que desde aproximadamente Agosto del 2008 a través de Junio del 2013, él abusó y malversó los fondos de la unión encomendados a él como tesorero de la PBA Local 109A. Los robos se descubrieron en Junio del 2013 cuando un presidente nuevo del local fue elegido. El nuevo presidente descubrió lo que parecía que eran gastos inapropiados cuando él examinó los recibos de las cuentas de banco. Él refirió el asunto a la Division of Criminal Justice.

La investigación del estado reveló que Conyers hizo numerosos pagos y retiros inapropiados de las cuentas de banco de la unión usando cheques y tarjetas de crédito. Los gastos inapropiados incluían compras de ropa, gastos de comidas, compras de bebidas alcohólicas, pagos a Direct TV, pagos por equipo de golf y gastos en South Carolina, e incluso pago de matrícula universitaria.

El Deputy Attorney General Khodarkovsky, el Detective Scott Donlan y la Analyst Kathy Ratliff condujeron la investigación de parte del Division of Criminal Justice Corruption Bureau, bajo la supervisión del Deputy Attorney General Anthony Picione, Jefe del Bureau.

El Acting Attorney General Hoffman y el Director Honig anotaron que la Division of Criminal Justice ha establecido un número gratis 1-866-TIPS-4CJ para que el público reporte corrupción, crimen financiero y otras actividades ilegales. Además, el público puede ir al sitio web de la Division of Criminal Justice www.njdcj.org para reportar infracciones. Toda la información recibida permanecerá confidencial.
