New Jersey is no stranger to innovation. Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) holds the world record for the most patents awarded to an individual inventor. Doing most of his work in his laboratories in Newark, Menlo Park and West Orange, Edison earned a total of 1,093 patents.
