The Comprehensive Management Plan

Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP)

The New Jersey Pinelands Commission protects the Pinelands through its implementation of the Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP). The CMP contains the rules that guide land-use, development and natural resource protection programs in the state Pinelands Area.

The Commission was granted the authority to preserve this special part of New Jersey through the passage of the National Parks and Recreation Act of 1978 and the New Jersey Pinelands Protection Act in 1979.

The regulations and standards contained in the CMP are designed to promote orderly development by channeling growth toward appropriate areas while safeguarding the region's unique natural, ecological, agricultural, archaeological, historical, scenic, cultural and recreational resources.

For historic and background information regarding the Pinelands and its resources, you may wish to review the original Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan as adopted on November 21, 1980.

The most updated version of the CMP can be accessed below.
