Edie
Fulton leads the 177,000 member New Jersey Education Association
for the second time in her 35-year career in public education. In
2002, New Jersey Monthly magazine named her one of the 25 most powerful
people in New Jersey. She has served as host of "Classroom
Close-up, NJ," NJEA's Emmy Award winning weekly TV show airing
on the PBS affiliate NJN. She has served on the Governor's Commission
on Alternative Certification, the Governor's Master Teacher Commission,
and the Council on New Jersey Affairs at Princeton University's
Woodrow Wilson School. She began her career in 1966 as a fourth
grade teacher at Lakehurst Elementary School. A trained musician
and performing artist, Ms. Fulton combined those talents in 1985
to become a K-8 teacher of performing arts in Lakehurst. She has
been active in a wide range of community activities with her church,
hospital auxiliary, and UNICEF.
