Department of Defense - New Jersey Militia and New Jersey Rifle Corps


The collections listed on this page relate, primarily, to the New Jersey Militia as organized under "An Act for organizing and training the Militia of this state" passed 30 November 1792.

Also included are materials relating to the New Jersey Rifle Corps, which was established as a separate organization during the Civil War.

Both the New Jersey Militia and the New Jersey Rifle Corps were merged to form the New Jersey National Guard under legislation passed 9 March 1869.
