These journals provide a chronological record of the various canal business accounts (freight, tolls, drawbacks, companies). The first journal was kept at Jersey City by the canal company. Journal J (which was kept first at Jersey City, then at Philadelphia) contains brief entries corresponding to the information recorded in Journals A through 4, which were kept in Philadelphia, and cover the period from 1 July 1871 to 31 March 1892. |
