Municipal Birth, Marriage and Death Records
The State Archives' holding constitute only a sampling of local vital records. Municipalities were required to keep duplicate birth, marriage and death registers beginning in 1848; however, many pre-1910 records have not survived.
Counties were required to file marriage returns beginning in 1795. State-level recording of births, marriages and deaths began in 1848. Consult the pages linked below for further information on vital records. Additional and/or more recent records will be available at the municipal level. Consult the Collecting Policy for additional information about the State Archives' accessioning guidelines. |
