Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno Announces $231,450 in Statewide Project and Mini-grant Support for Preserving New Jersey's History
December 7, 2012 Trenton, NJ – Furthering the Christie Administration's commitment to preserving and advancing the state's rich heritage, Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno today announced that the New Jersey Historical Commission approved $231,450 in Fiscal Year 2013 project and mini-grant support to 22 organizations, museums, historic sites, individuals, archives and libraries in 14 counties.
"This financial support will assist our historical organizations and strengthen their important educational programming," said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, who serves concurrently as Secretary of State. "Not only does it help to enrich the lives of our residents by preserving the historical record and advancing awareness of New Jersey's past, but it recognizes the impact these organizations have on economic growth and job creation. This is especially critical as we begin rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Sandy."
Project grants and mini-grants are available to cover expenses for specific projects related to New Jersey history. Eligible categories include conservation of historical materials, editorial and publication projects, educational initiatives, exhibitions, media, public programs and research. Funding levels for project grants range from $3,000 to $15,000. Mini-grants are available for up to $3,000 for smaller projects.
The New Jersey Historical Commission's grant programs are determined through an independent, third-party peer review process. Funding for these grant programs is made possible by a portion of the revenue produced by the state's Hotel/Motel Tax legislation.
