Igor Stravinsky - Ragtime for 11 Instruments (1918)
Darius Milhaud - Creation of the World (1923)
Kurt Weill - Suite from the "Three Penny Opera" (1928)
George Antheil - Jazz Symphony (1925)

A new kind of music called "jazz" was taking the world by storm in the early 20th Century and a number of leading symphonic composers were swept into its allure. This program takes us back in time to the "Roaring Twenties", where we meet four brilliant young composers, including Trenton's own George Antheil, who were compelled to incorporate elements of the jazz style into their highly original music. Joining us will be Soprano Gianine Campbell, who will help transport us to Germany's Schiffbauerdamm Theater for the 1928 premiere of Kurt Weill's "Three Penny Opera" including cabaret style songs like "Mack the Knife" and "Ballad of the Easy Life." Gianine, who has appeared with many prestigious theaters and ensembles, including a solo appearance with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, was born in Trenton and is a magna cum laude graduate of Providence College. She is a former Miss Rhode Island and competed at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, where she performed opera on the great stage at Boardwalk Hall. Her effervescent personality and silvery voice are sure to steal your heart.
