A Letter from Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno

As your Lt. Governor and Secretary of State, I’m focused on expanding economic development and helping businesses thrive in New Jersey. To that end, I work tirelessly with businesses across our State to improve our business climate and make New Jersey more business-friendly.

I serve as Chair of The Red Tape Review Commission. Our focus is to spur economic activity by reviewing and eliminating administrative rules and regulatory standards. I’m proud of our work to cut more than 4,000 pages from the over 7000 pages of wasteful, unnecessary and intrusive bureaucracy we inherited. The “Revised Uniform Limited Liability Company Act” was passed through the hard work of the Red Tape Review Commission, which along with our other efforts, such as $2.3 billion in tax cuts to businesses, has yielded over 276,000 new jobs, a State record of nearly 100,000 new businesses filed, and an 18 spot increase in our economic ranking according to Governing Magazine.

These victories do not happen overnight – they are the result of hard work and a focus on making New Jersey a better place to live, work and invest. Thanks to the Business Action Center, Choose NJ, the Economic Development Authority (EDA), and our Administration, we are winning the fight to keep businesses here, all while attracting new ones.

Here’s one short example of our efforts. Bayer AG, a German-based global conglomerate sought to consolidate its sites in Tarrytown, New York and Elkhart, Indiana along with its New Jersey based sites in Wayne, Montville and Morristown. After many meetings, phone calls, and offers, and in steep and direct competition with Pennsylvania and New York for the project, Bayer AG agreed to consolidate operations in New Jersey at the former Alcatel-Lucent headquarters in Hanover Township. In doing so, Bayer AG received approximately $36 million in job incentives to retain over 1,000 New Jersey-based jobs and support the creation of 500 new jobs.

Stories like Bayer are why I love my job – and why business feels welcome again in New Jersey. I’m proud of our record in helping companies stay and grow in New Jersey, as well as locate in our great State. By pounding the pavement on behalf of the New Jersey business community, we’re creating opportunities for our citizens, families, and municipalities to grow and get ahead, and make our State the place we’re proud to call home.

This is what keeps us fighting.
