NJDOT Assistant Commissioner Anthony Attanasio joined with New Jersey State Comptroller Matthew Boxer, Board of Public Utilities President Robert Hanna and NJDCA Commissioner Richard Constable (not pictured) at the Garfield Boys and Girls Club to mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy in the spirit of compassion, service and volunteerism that united citizens in the wake of the storm.  The officials helped repaint the facility, assembled Welcome Home kits, moved furniture and performed other tasks at the Club which served as a community shelter in Garfield for weeks after Sandy.

Christie Administration opens portion of Route 206 Hillsborough Bypass dedicated to former Assemblyman Peter Biondi

Governor Chris Christie, NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson and local elected officials opened the 1.7 mile, center portion of the new Route 206 Bypass between Amwell Road and Hillsborough Road in Hillsborough, Somerset County. The bypass, championed by the late Hillsborough Mayor and Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi, will be named in his honor.

Governor Chris Christie, US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson announced "NJ TRANSITGRID" to make the state's infrastructure more resilient for future disasters while at the Secaucus Train Station. The State of New Jersey is collaborating with the US Department of Energy to design NJ TRANSITGRID - a first-of-its-kind electrical micro-grid capable of supplying highly-reliable power during storms or other times when the traditional centralized grid is compromised.

Christie Administration Route 35 'Listening Tour'

NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson joined with Toms River council members and local residents and business owners, continuing the Christie Administration's Route 35 Reconstruction “Listening Tour” in the Normandy Beach and Chadwick Beach sections of Toms River. The Department is committed to building and maintaining partnerships with the residents, businesses and officials as a $265 million project gets under way to completely rebuild along a 12.5-mile stretch of Route 35 that was severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson at Lincoln Park Airport announces six grants to five airports that will provide more than $1.8 million in state funding for projects that enhance safety, promote state-of-good repair or advance studies for potential improvements at five of New Jersey's general aviation airports. He was joined by New Jersey Economic Development Authority CEO Michele Brown who spoke about the contributions general aviation airports make to local economies; General Aviation Manufacturers Association President Pete Bunce and Airport Owners and Pilots Association President Craig Fuller, who held a Town Hall Meeting at the event engaging with pilots, airport owners and operators, and aviation officials to discuss issues of importance to the industry.

Christie Administration Route 35 groundbreaking event

Governor Chris Christie and NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson officially broke ground on the $265 million construction project to rebuild Route 35, the gateway to many of the barrier islands that make up the Jersey Shore. Heavily damaged by Sandy nine months ago, Route 35 runs through nine municipalities along the Barnegat Peninsula. NJDOT plans to substantially complete the 12.5-mile reconstruction project of the roadway, from the border between Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head to the entrance of Island Beach State Park in Berkeley, by the summer of 2015.

Christie Administration Rail Safety Enhancements announcement

In honor of National Safety Month, New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson today joined NJ TRANSIT Executive Director James Weinstein and New Jersey Department of Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez at Trenton Transit Center to highlight NJDOT and NJ TRANSIT's collaborative efforts to promote safety and reduce accidental deaths along the State's busy railroad tracks. These efforts have succeeded in sharply reducing accidental fatalities across the NJ TRANSIT rail system.

NJDOT Assistant Commissioner Anthony Attanasio teamed up with NJDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Sheree Davis to celebrate National Bike Month with the creation of a new online Bicycling Map and Resource Guide that indicates the suitablility of state highways and county roads for bicycling in New Jersey. The event was followed by a ride along Island Beach State Park that served as a reminder that the Jersey Shore will be open for business this summer as a premier vacation and day-trip destination.

Acting Governor Kim Guadagno joined with New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner James Simpson and Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes at Trenton-Mercer Airport to announce $2.5 million in State funding for the rehabilitation of nearly 27,000 square yards of an airport taxiway to improve safety and swift airplane access to runways. The announcement launches the first part of a $12 million project to upgrade several taxiways. In addition to the $2.5 million provided by the State, Mercer County is contributing $132,000 and is seeking grants from the Federal Aviation Administration for the balance.

Route 35 Reconstruction announcement

Governor Chris Christie joined with NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson and Lavallette Mayor Walter LaCicero at the Lavallette firehouse to announce an aggressive schedule to completely rebuild a 12.5-mile storm-damaged stretch of Route 35 along the Barnegat Peninsula in Ocean County. The highway, which serves as the primary north-south route along the Jersey Shore peninsula from Point Pleasant Beach to the entrance of Island Beach State Park, sustained severe damage during Superstorm Sandy and requires immediate attention so that residents and visitors can resume normal travel in Ocean County. The reconstruction project will rebuild this span of Route 35 in a stronger, more resilient manner, while also providing better drainage, a smoother driving surface, improved accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists, and more economical repair and upkeep costs.

NJDOT Commissioner James Simpson and members of the project team met with local officials and media to discuss the $1 billion Pulaski Skyway rehabilitation project, including significant traffic impacts starting in 2014 associated with replacing the deck of the 3.5 mile long structure that carries Route 1&9 traffic. The meetings were held at the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority headquarters.
