Study underway for Bicycle and
Pedestrian improvements to Route 1

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has begun an eight month effort to develop a plan to improve conditions for bicycling and walking within the Route 1 corridor from Woodbridge to Trenton.

Called the Route 1 Bicycle and Pedestrian Corridor Plan, it will primarily address bicycling and walking as alternative modes of transportation, in an effort to improve the mobility of all residents who live or work near Route 1. It will also focus on the need for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, such as bike lanes, sidewalks, and greenways in certain locations along the corridor.

NJDOT and the team of consultants working on the Plan are extending an invitation for the first set of public meetings in December. Two meetings are scheduled: December 16 at the Stelton Community Center at 7 PM and December 17 at the Plainsboro Township Municipal Building at 7 PM. Public participation is encouraged.

NJDOT chose a group of nationally-recognized consultants to conduct this Plan. The team is led by the RBA Group, a planning and engineering firm from Morristown, NJ. Green ways, Inc., a planning and landscape architecture firm from Raleigh, NC, the Bicycle Federation of America from Washington, DC, and Lehr & Associates, a transportation planning firm from Trenton, are also included on the team.
