NJDOT suspends construction for July 4th weekend

MEDIA ADVISORY

Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. today announced that NJDOT will suspend construction activities that impact traffic for the Holiday weekend.

"We’re guaranteeing motorists a holiday from road construction," the Commissioner said. Beginning at noon this Thursday, July 3, all construction work that impacts lanes will be suspended through the morning rush hour on Monday, July 6th. "Only in emergency situations will any lanes be closed," Haley said.

The DOT will also be extending the hours of operation for our Emergency Service Patrols (ESP) to accommodate Holiday travelers on major routes, including I-80, 280, I-287 in the northern part of the State; and, to the south, Routes 295, 55, 42, and 76/676.

In preparing for Holiday travel, Haley urged motorists to take steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. "Before leaving home, drivers should inspect their vehicle for basic items like gas, water and oil, and make sure the spare tire is properly inflated." Haley also encouraged motorists with disabled vehicles to pull completely off the roadway and stay with their vehicle until police or ESP personnel arrive.
