NJDOT to Host Conference in Advance of National Workzone Safety Awareness Week 2001

The New Jersey Department of Transportation will be hosting a conference to promote National Workzone Safety Awareness Week 2001 on Thursday, April 5, at NJDOT headquarters in Ewing.

To highlight Workzone Safety Awareness Week 2001, which runs from April 9 -12, the NJDOT plans to make awards to various state organizations that practice good workzone safety on the roads. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11:45 a.m. at the NJDOT's Employee Memorial.

"National Workzone Safety Week calls the public's attention to efforts across the county to make construction zones on our roads safer for workers and easier for motorists and pedestrians to travel around. We at NJDOT -- as well as all our partners in government and industry -- know that because we are out working on the roads and potentially putting ourselves in harm's way, workzone safety is an issue we and the motoring public must be vigilant about every day, around the clock," said Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein.

The conference is being co-sponsored by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Traffic Safety Services Association and the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation at Rutgers University. Other participants include the Federal Highway Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, New Jersey State Police, NJ Department of Corrections, NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety, Construction Industry Advancement Program of NJ, Utility and Transportation Contractors Association, and representatives from labor unions.
