NJDOT implements communications plan
for Shark River bridge construction work
The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced a comprehensive communications plan for the Route 35 Shark River bridge project in Monmouth County.
Information on the upcoming closures of the Shark River inlet will be available to the area boating community through Marine Traffic Alerts that will be placed in local newspapers for the duration of the channel work.
In addition, fliers have been distributed to area commercial and recreational marinas and slips, the NJ State Police and the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard will provide daily updates to boaters on Coast Guard radio channels 16 and 22a. Signs have also been fabricated and posted at locations along the Shark River to alert marine traffic to the closures.
Closures to marine traffic will take place on 21 weather-permitting weekdays (Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) over the next eight weeks between July 29 and September 19.
The channel will be closed to allow construction crews to continue work on the first of two new Route 35 bridges in Monmouth County. They will replace the existing Route 35 movable bridge over the Shark River, which has an antiquated draw mechanism that causes congestion and delays when opened for river traffic.
