Route 29 truck restriction to be made permanent
Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox today announced that the Department of Transportation is proposing to make the Route 29 truck restriction permanent. The traffic order that put this restriction in place has been in effect since January 11, 2002.
"We feel that the Route 29 corridor is operating safely and efficiently, and that the temporary weight limits established under the January 11, 2002 traffic order should be made permanent," Commissioner Fox said. "The McGreevey Administration remains committed to working with the City of Trenton to keep Route 29 a safe, attractive, and pedestrian-friendly roadway."
On January 11, 2002, the Department of Transportation determined that it was in the interest of the public health, safety and welfare to impose by Traffic Order a temporary weight limit of 26,000 pounds on State Highway Route 29, south of where it intersects with Interstate Highway Route 95.
The purpose of the temporary weight limit Traffic Order was to give the Department time to consult with local and other officials and to ensure coordination of all weight limits on the Route 29 corridor.
As required by law, there is a 30-day public comment period regarding this order. Anyone interested in providing comments to the Department of Transportation may send their comments by mail or by fax before the close of business on December 11, 2002, to Patricia K.
