NJDOT to close Harding Rest Area

Parking area and toilet facilities will remain available

(Trenton) Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced at the Harding Rest Area on I-287 in Morris County will permanently close on December 31, 2006. The rest area currently provides indoor public sanitation rooms and vending machines as well as visitor and travel information.

Motorists will continue to have access to the parking area, which accommodates 77 passenger car and 22 truck parking spots, and may utilize portable toilets. NJDOT will continue to provide lighting, outdoor vending machines and garbage receptacles. In addition, NJDOT will continue to maintain the property by landscaping and clearing snow and ice.

The closure of the Harding Rest Area will generate an approximate savings of $150,000 per year for the State of New Jersey. NJDOT provided flyers and installed signs at the Harding Rest Area in order to notify the public of the impending closure.
