NJDOT announces truck and
bus detour on Route 9W ramp in Fort Lee

(Trenton)– The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced an upcoming truck and bus detour for the Route 9W southbound (Fletcher Avenue) ramp onto Routes 1&9 in Fort Lee, Bergen County.

On Saturday, October 11, NJDOT will begin to repair the Route 9W ramp. All truck and bus traffic will be detoured and prohibited from making a right turn from Route 9W southbound onto the entrance ramp to Route 1&9. Passenger vehicle traffic will be maintained.

  • Truck and Bus Detour: Continue on Route 9W southbound to the first traffic light and make a left turn onto Kelby Street. Keep right at the fork to continue on Kelby Street, which becomes Bruce Reynolds Boulevard. Turn left turn onto Lemoine Avenue. Turn right onto Bridge Plaza North. Travel approximately 75 feet and turn right onto the ramp to Route 1&9.

NJDOT will reconstruct the Route 9W (Fletcher Avenue) ramps onto I-95 in Fort Lee. The project will include widening Route 9W southbound to provide a right-turn lane leading to the ramps to Route 4 westbound and to I-95. The ramp to Route 4 westbound will also be widened to two lanes. New sign structures and ground-mounted signs will be installed to improve safety. In addition, NJDOT will build raised- concrete curb medians along Route 9W to prevent motorists from undertaking dangerous left turn and cross movements. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2009.

Variable message signs will be installed to inform motorists of pending construction and detours. Real time traffic information is available to motorists at www.511nj.org.
