NJDOT announces traffic
pattern changes on Pulaski Skyway

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced upcoming traffic pattern changes on the Route 1 and 9 Pulaski Skyway in Kearney and Jersey City, Hudson County.

Starting Monday night, April 6, NJDOT will close both southbound Route 1&9 for the full length of the Pulaski Skyway, Monday through Friday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, for approximately one week. All work is weather permitting.

Route 1&9 southbound traffic will be detoured overnight as follows:

  • The on-ramp from Tonnele Avenue to the Pulasky Skyway will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Route 1&9 Truck and to Route 1&9 in Newark.
  • The Broadway ramp to the Pulaski Skyway will be closed and detoured to Route 1&9 Truck and to Route 1&9.
  • Traffic from Route 139 westbound will also be detoured to the Tonnele Circle and will follow the same detour as Route 1&9 traffic.

On Wednesday night, April 15, NJDOT will close both northbound Route 1&9 travel lanes of the Pulaski Skyway nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day, for approximately two weeks. The Route 1&9 northbound on-ramp from Kearny will also be closed during the same time frame. The Route 1&9 northbound express lanes will be diverted to the Route 1&9 local lanes the Pulaski Skyway.

During the full closures of the northbound Pulaski Skyway, the Route 1&9 northbound Local crossover to the Pulaski Skyway will be closed, and traffic will be detoured onto Route 1&9 Truck northbound. Traffic will continue on Route 1&9 Truck north to the Tonnele Circle.

NJDOT’s $20 million Pulaski Skyway interim repair project includes improvements to the existing concrete bridge deck and curbs. NJDOT is scheduled to complete this interim contract in June 2009. Additional repairs will follow.
