NJDOT announces Route 9 improvements
in Lower Township

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that Route 9 will be closed for two nights to install new pipe between Sally Marshall Road and Bennett’s Crossing and between the Bennett’s Crossing and Sandman Boulevard.

The closure marks the start of a $7.5 million project to widen and reconstruct Route 9 and create new intersections by extending Tabernacle Road and Breakwater Road to Route 9 in Lower Township, Cape May County.

On Monday, February 14, NJDOT will begin shoulder work for pipe installation on Route 9 between the Sally Marshall and Bennett’s railroad crossings. Traffic will be shifted to the northbound side with one lane in each direction.

The project also includes widening Seashore Road at the Tabernacle Road and Breakwater Road intersections, new railroad crossings at Sally Marshall and Bennett’s crossings, pavement rehabilitation, new turning slots, traffic signals, and storm water detention systems.

Completion of the project is scheduled for July 2012.
