New truck Weigh and Inspection station to be constructed along I-80 in Warren County

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced the start of a project to replace the truck weigh station on I-80 eastbound in Hardwick and Knowlton townships, Warren County and replace it with a new and improved facility.

The new state of the art facilities will enable New Jersey to more effectively enforce truck weight and safety regulations. The new station will feature a 70-foot long, three platform static scale, two weigh-in-motion scales and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) components. A commercial vehicle inspection building and a facility control building will also be constructed at the new station.

Additionally, the project will improve highway safety along I-80 by improving the exit and entrance ramps to and from the truck weigh station. Two new retaining walls will be built, four new overhead sign structures will be installed and the existing guide rail will be replaced.

During some stages of construction the I-80 eastbound lanes adjacent to the station will be reduced and the right shoulder will be closed.

At a later stage of construction, NJDOT will close the I-80 turnaround located at milepost 2 and redirect motorists to the turnarounds at milepost 4.5 and milepost 0.8. The westbound ramp to the turnaround will remain open to facilitate access to the adjacent Boy Scout camp grounds.

The $11 million project is scheduled to be completed in June 2012.
