NJDOT announces Route 46 westbound ramp closures in Montville and Fairfield

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced an upcoming series of ramp closures along Route 46 westbound as construction progresses on a major resurfacing and roadway repair project in the townships of Parsippany-Troy Hills and Montville, Morris County and Fairfield, Essex County.

NJDOT’s contractor, Tilcon Inc., is scheduled to close the Route 46 westbound ramp to Fairfield Road Connector on Wednesday, May 4, and Thursday, May 5 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. During the ramp closures Route 46 westbound motorists will continue to Hollywood Avenue southbound to Fairfield Road.

The Route 46 westbound ramp to Gately Overpass and Fairfield Road will be closed Thursday, May 5, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday morning. Route 46 westbound motorists will continue to Madison Road to Plymouth Street to Route 46 eastbound to Fairfield Road.

The Interstate 80 westbound ramp to Route 46 westbound ramp will be closed Friday, May 6, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday morning. I-80 westbound motorists destined for Route 46 westbound will be directed to the prior exit for Hook Mountain Road south to Route 46 westbound.

All work is weather dependent and is subject to be rescheduled for rain.

The $4.4 million project began construction in early March and will mill and repave asphalt sections of the roadway and repair the concrete subsurface on Route 46 westbound at different sections of the highway, between milepost 46.4, just east of I-287, and milepost 55, at Two Bridges Road, through the townships of Parsippany-Troy Hills, Montville and Fairfield. The contractor began milling and resurfacing at the eastern end of the project and is working west towards I-287.

Resurfacing operations are requiring overnight single lane closures on Route 46 westbound and NJDOT is confining the repaving work to overnight hours to minimize the impact to motorists. All Route 46 westbound travel lanes and ramps will be maintained during daytime hours, with periodic shoulder closures for curb repair work.

Variable Message signs will provide motorists with advance notification of traffic pattern changes. Motorists are also encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
