Route 1 southbound shift planned over Heathcote Brook in South Brunswick

(Trenton) - A Route 1 southbound traffic shift over the Heathcote Brook in South Brunswick will take place this weekend, NJDOT officials today announced.

NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction Inc., plans to shift both Route 1 southbound travel lanes to the left (east) over the Heathcote Brook and established a new construction zone on the western portion of the highway. Route 1 northbound remains in place.

A posted speed-limit reduction to 45-mph will remain in effect on Route 1 through the project limits.

The work is part of an on-going, $3 million state-funded project that is replacing the Heathcote Brook culvert and stabilizing the supporting soil under the foundation footings and abutments.

NJDOT is utilizing variable message signs to notify motorists of all traffic pattern changes on Route 1. Construction is scheduled for completion in late-fall 2011.

The precise timing of the work mentioned in this advisory is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
