Traffic pattern changes announced on Route 9
over AC Expressway in Pleasantville
Ongoing SJTA bridge deck resurfacing project moves into next stage of construction

(Hammonton) - NJDOT and South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) officials today announced that a construction stage change for the Route 9 bridge deck resurfacing project over the Atlantic City Expressway (ACE) will require some truck turning restrictions at the interchange in Pleasantville.

Beginning Friday night, April 13, SJTA’s contractor, JPC Group from Blackwood, NJ, will shift Route 9 traffic to the right in both directions on the bridge, utilizing the outside shoulders, to set up a new construction zone in the center of the highway. This will require single-lane closures overnight with the new traffic pattern expected to be in place by early Saturday morning.

For safety purposes, the placement of construction barrier for the new traffic pattern requires that large trucks be restricted from making the following turning movements to and from Route 9 and the ACE ramps:

• Left turns from the eastbound ACE off-ramp to northbound Route 9.
o Motorists will be directed to take Route 9 southbound to Route 40/322 eastbound to Franklin Avenue north to Delilah Road (CR 646) west to Route 9 northbound.

• Left turns from the westbound ACE off-ramp to southbound Route 9.
o Motorists will be directed to use the prior interchange (Exit 4) onto Franklin Avenue southbound to Route 40/322 westbound to Route 9 southbound.

• Left turns from southbound Route 9 to the eastbound ACE on-ramp.
o Motorists will be directed to continue on 9 southbound to Route 40/322 eastbound to Franklin Avenue north to the ACE eastbound.

This stage of construction is expected to last approximately three weeks. The $998,000 project, which is also resurfacing the Shore Road (CR 585) bridge over the ACE, began construction in March 2012 and is anticipated to be complete by Memorial Day.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
