NJDOT to replace Democrat Road bridge deck
over I-295 in Greenwich Township
Gloucester County Route 673 bridge to be closed
for duration of construction

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a bridge deck replacement project on Democrat Road (CR 673) over all lanes of Interstate 295 in Greenwich Township in Gloucester County.

NJDOT’s contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction, began preliminary construction activity including site mobilization and sign installation in late-June, with no impact to motorists.

On Tuesday morning, July 10, the contractor is scheduled to close and detour the bridge for approximately four months to perform the necessary deck demolition and reconstruction work. The reconstructed bridge is expected to be reopened to traffic in November 2012.

• During the closure CR 673 eastbound motorists will be directed to use Swedesboro Road (CR 653) south to I-295 northbound to CR 673 east.
• CR 637 westbound motorists will be directed to use I-295 northbound to Exit 17 for Swedesboro Avenue to Harmony Road (CR 680) north to I-295 southbound to CR 673 west.

The entrance and exit ramps at the I-295 Exit 16B interchange will remain open to through traffic during construction, although the I-295 southbound movement to CR 673 eastbound and the I-295 northbound movement to CR 673 westbound will be restricted.

• I-295 southbound motorists destined for CR 673 eastbound will be directed to use CR 673 west to Swedesboro Road south to I-295 north to CR 673 east.
• I-295 northbound motorists destined for CR 673 west will be directed to use Exit 17 for Swedesboro Avenue to Harmony Road (CR 680) north to I-295 southbound to CR 673 west.

The $1.65 million project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck, parapets and sidewalk. The roadway approaches on either end of the bridge will be resurfaced and some curb and guide rail upgrades will be made.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
