Interstate 195 traffic changes announced over
New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville
Westbound travel lanes to be restored onto newly built westbound bridge as work begins on eastbound structure

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the Interstate 195 westbound travel lanes will be restored on to the new westbound bridge over the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville, Mercer County this weekend.

On Saturday night, November 10, New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) contractor, PKF-Mark III, is scheduled to close the westbound temporary crossover to the existing eastbound bridge over the NJ Turnpike and place westbound traffic onto the new westbound bridge. Overnight single-lane closures will be needed, with the new traffic pattern expected to be in place by 8 a.m. on Sunday, November 11.

The I-195 eastbound bridge has been supporting all four travel lanes since July 2011, as the old westbound bridge was demolished and a new, longer structure was built.

Work will now begin to construct temporary crossovers to move eastbound traffic onto the new westbound bridge with two travel lanes in each direction on this bridge. The new I-195 westbound bridge will be reconfigured to carry two travel lanes in each direction over the Turnpike, separated by concrete barrier, but all roadway shoulders will be eliminated.

• In approximately two weeks, the contractor is scheduled to implement the eastbound crossover and place all Interstate 195 traffic (two lanes in each direction) onto the westbound bridge. Eastbound motorists will be shifted back over the median to return to the eastbound side of the highway once they are past the bridge.

Work will then begin to reconstruct and lengthen the eastbound bridge at this location. NJTA is lengthening the I-195 bridges over the Turnpike in connection with the widening of the Turnpike from three lanes in each direction to six lanes at this location. Construction began in 2009 and the entire project is expected to be complete in late 2014.

Variable message signs on I-195 are in place to notify motorists of upcoming construction and traffic pattern changes. NJDOT and NJTA provide emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.511nj.org
