NJDOT to replace CR 609 bridge over Route 130
in Hamilton
Church Street/Yardville-Groveville Road to be closed at bridge
for duration of construction

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a bridge superstructure replacement project on County Route 609 (Church Street/Yardville-Groveville Road) over all lanes of Route 130 in Hamilton Township, Mercer County.

NJDOT’s contractor, Berto Construction, Inc., will begin preliminary construction activity this week including the installation of temporary safety shielding underneath the bridge, requiring periodic single-lane closures on Route 130.

Then on Friday night, March 22, the contractor is scheduled to close and detour the bridge for approximately eight months to perform the necessary demolition and reconstruction work. The Route 130 northbound exit ramp to County Route 609 will also be closed to traffic.

• County Route 609 northbound motorists will be directed to use Main Street to South Broad Street to Route 156 southbound to County Route 609.

• County Route 609 southbound motorists will be directed to use Route 156 northbound, South Broad Street, Main Street to County Route 609.

• Route 130 northbound motorists destined for County Route 609 will take the South Broad Street exit to Main Street to County Route 609.

The $1.78 million federally-funded project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge superstructure running over Route 130 and make some minor substructure repairs. The bridge was originally built in 1950 and has deteriorated over time, requiring reconstruction. The roadway approaches on either end of the bridge will be resurfaced and some curb and guide rail upgrades will be made.

The reconstructed bridge is expected to be reopened to traffic this fall 2013.

NJDOT will maintain all travel lanes on Route 130 in each direction below the overpass during peak period hours. However, single-lane closures may be necessary on Route 130 during off-peak hours.

The Department held a Public Information Center in April 2012 to provide interested residents with the opportunity to review exhibits of the project, ask questions and discuss issues with representatives.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for real-time travel information.
