Regional resurfacing contract to improve pavement in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties
NJDOT to improve motorist safety along stretches
of five different state highways

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project is expected to begin construction this week in southwestern New Jersey.

NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway on five different highways in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties - at the following locations:

• Route 42 in both directions from near the Atlantic City Expressway entrance ramp in Washington Township (near milepost 6.2) to the bridge over the NJ Turnpike in Deptford (milepost 13.1).
• Route 73 northbound from Howard Boulevard (milepost 26.8) in Mount Laurel to just south of the interchange with Route 41 (milepost 28.7) in Maple Shade.
• Route 90 westbound from the Route 73 interchange (milepost 3.13) in Cinnaminson to just east of Route 130 (milepost 2.25) in Pennsauken.
• Route 154 (Brace Road) in both directions from the interchange with CR 561 (milepost 0) to Route 41 (milepost 1.51) in Cherry Hill.
• Route 168 in both directions from just north of Benigno Boulevard (milepost 6.86) to Anderson Avenue (milepost 7.33) in Bellmawr and from West High Street (milepost 7.56) in Haddon Heights through Mount Ephraim to Merchant Street (milepost 8.65) in Audubon.

The $9.2 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, vicinity of side streets, ramp and shoulders. All utility hardware (manholes) will be rest within the roadway to improve final surface course rideability and ADA-compliant curb ramps will be constructed where necessary. The highways will be restriped and new image-detection cameras will be installed at selected intersections to replace the existing underground loop detectors.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, South State, Inc., plans to begin initial construction activity on Route 42 this week. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane in at each location during peak period travel hours. Access to all businesses will be maintained. All work in the contract is expected to complete in fall 2013.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
