Interstate 280 eastbound traffic shifted back
onto temporary median structure over Whippany River
Corrective work needed to fix
cross slope on eastbound bridge completed in 2012

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that both Interstate 280 eastbound travel lanes will be shifted back onto the temporary structure in the median over the Whippany River, as the contractor completes some corrective action work to fix the pavement cross slope on the recently rebuilt bridge at this location.

NJDOT’s contractor will enact the traffic shift this weekend. The temporary traffic pattern is expected to remain in place over the Whippany River for approximately three-to-four weeks for the corrective work to be completed, at which time I-280 eastbound will be restored in the normal configuration.

In 2012 NJDOT and the construction contractor replaced the structurally deficient bridge I-280 eastbound bridge deck over the Whippany River connecting Parsippany-Troy Hills and East Hanover in Morris County. The work was completed in December 2012. The westbound bridge deck will be replaced under a future contract.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are also encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
