Garden State Parkway construction
to require another round of Route 34 closures in Wall

(Trenton) - NJDOT and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced another series of overnight road and ramp closures on Route 34 in Wall Township to accommodate ongoing construction on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) bridges that span over the state highway.

NJTA’s contractor, Northeast RemsCo, is scheduled to close Route 34 overnight - in one travel direction at a time - for two-to-three nights each way, during the week of December 16. The tentative plan calls for:

• Route 34 southbound to be closed on Monday, December 16, Tuesday, December 17 and Wednesday night, December 18 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the following morning.
o Motorists will be directed to take Route 138/I-195 eastbound to Allenwood Road to Route 34 southbound.

• Route 34 northbound to be closed on Thursday, December 19 and Friday, December 20 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the following morning.
o Motorists will be directed to use the off-ramp for GSP/Route 138/I-195, take the ramp for Route 138 westbound to the ramp for Route 34 northbound.

Access to the Garden State Parkway southbound from Route 34 southbound - at the ramp located just prior to the bridges - will be maintained. Interstate 195 eastbound and Route 138 westbound motorists destined for Route 34 southbound will be directed to use either Allenwood Road or W. 18th Avenue (CR 30). The contractor has utilized similar overnight closures in recent weeks for other construction work.

The NJTA is reconstructing the bridges over Route 34 as part of a $174 million contract to widen the GSP to restore full roadway shoulders between milepost 100 and milepost 90 in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Construction began at the bridges over Route 34 in March 2013 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
