I-280 eastbound lane closure
for emergency bridge repairs in Newark

Bridge deck requires immediate work

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the immediate emergency closure of the left lane on I-280 eastbound for emergency bridge work in Newark over Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The closure will likely affect the evening commute as one lane remains open in the eastbound direction in the area of milepost 14.1 while NJDOT crews perform the necessary repairs. Martin Luther King Boulevard may require a lane shift or closure to permit the work on the overhead bridge while ensuring the safety of commuters.

NJDOT recommends that motorists plan their evening commute accordingly and prepare for delays in the region.

NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work.  The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
