Route 1 southbound lane closures required for
Garden State Parkway Bridge project
in Middlesex County
Temporary single and double lane closures necessary
in Woodbridge

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced a series of overnight single and double lane closures on Route 1 southbound in Woodbridge to accommodate ongoing construction on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) bridges that span over the state highway.

Starting at 9 p.m., Monday, May 15 until 6 a.m. the next morning, and continuing each night through Friday, May 19, NJTA’s contractor Northeast Remsco Construction, LLC., is scheduled to close one alternating lane on Route 1 southbound. A second lane will be closed from 11 pm. until 6 a.m. the next morning, and continuing each night through Friday, May 19 for bridge deck replacement work in Woodbridge, Middlesex County. After this initial week, there will be intermittent off-peak closures until project completion in 2019.

Next week’s bridge work is part of an ongoing NJTA $42.7 million deck replacement contract of six non-major Parkway bridges between Old Bridge and Woodbridge, which began in 2015. Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary until project completion. NJTA has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weatheror other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
