Route 22 westbound weekend lane closures required for bridge deck replacement project in Warren County

Traffic shift necessary as rehabilitation advances

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced temporary lanes closures on the Route 22 westbound bridge over the Memorial Parkway/Route 22 eastbound ramp as the bridge deck replacement project advances in Phillipsburg, Warren County.

Beginning tomorrow at 7 a.m. Saturday, February 3, until complete, NJDOT’s contractor, Konkus Corporation, is expected to intermittently close one lane on the Route 22 westbound bridge over Route 22 eastbound, just after the Memorial Parkway exit in Phillipsburg, for restriping and the repositioning of construction barriers. Once in place, traffic will be shifted onto the newly reconstructed right lane and right shoulder, and the wide load truck detour will be removed. This new traffic pattern will remain in place to allow for construction on the left side of the bridge deck to be completed.

NJDOT will provide more information on the schedule of any additional lane closures as the project advances. During construction, at least one lane on Route 22 westbound will be maintained at all times.

NJDOT designed work on the $2.4 million federally-funded bridge deck replacement project at the Route 22 westbound bridge over the Memorial Parkway/Route 22 eastbound ramp to be performed in stages. During the first stage traffic was maintained on the left lane and the left shoulder on the bridge, and a wide load truck detour was put in place. For the second stage, traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed right lane and right shoulder, and the truck detour will no longer be necessary. The project, which will rehabilitate the structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge deck in Phillipsburg, Warren County, is expected to be completed in late 2018.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
